Sunan Abi Dawud is basically an Islamic book of Hadees hoarded by Imam Abu Dawud Sulayman who died in 275?. It is usually considered to be among the six sacred collections of Hadith (Kutub as-Sittah) of the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H). It is composed of 5274 hadiths (Ahadees) in 52 chapters.
In first chapter Imam Abu Dawood has discussed the Purification Kitab Al-taharah related Hadees. This chapter contains 390 Hadith. In Chapter 2, Jild 2 of Sunan Abi Dawud Imam Abu Dawood has quoted the Prayer Kitab Al-salat related Hadees. Chapter 14, Jild 14 of Sunan Abi Dawud is about issues regarding fasting. In chapter 15 Hadith on Jihad has been discussed. Chapter 23 reveals information about commercial transaction. In chapter 28 Imam Dawood has discussed food related Hadith. In chapter 43 you can read Hadith related to general behavior.
Abu Dawud collected 500,000 Hadees, but he did not subsume all he only included 4,800 Hadith in this collection. He made a series of journeys and acquired the most certain hadiths, quoting sources through which it reached to the person from which he collected the specific Hadees. Since the author collected hadiths which no one had ever assembled together, his Sunan has been accepted as a standard work by scholars from many parts of the Islamic world.
Mostly traditions (sayings) in this book are composed of those traditions that are mentioned by Bukhari and/or Muslim.
