Pakistan Urged To Develop Floriculture As An Industry

Pakistan should develop floriculture into a full-fledged industry to export exotic varieties of flowers in addition to attract tourists to visit innovative flower orchards in diversified and scenic environment of the blessed country.

This was stated by a floriculturist from Indian-held Kashmir Javed Ahmad Shah while addressing a meeting of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) Standing Committee on Agri-tourism and Civic Problems.
The visitor owns a big orchard of Tulip in picturesque city of Sri Nagar.
He told the audience that he exports colorful Tulips to the European markets where the Asian varieties were in great demand. He said that in the month of March when flowers were in full bloom, at least five lakh tourists visit his orchard.
Syed Khalid Mahmood Shah, Chairman FCCI Standing Committee, underlined the importance of promoting agri-tourism and stressed the need to involve private sector in this field.
Similarly, we could also grow medicinal plants on commercial basis, he added.
