ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 07th Dec, 2017 ) :A first-ever training workshop on material sciences, with the participants of twenty national institutions held here on Thursday to keep them updated about the new technology for evaluating relevant equipment'that are used in research work.
The event, organised by the department of Physics, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) was part of their'on-going activities to introduce new developments in various disciplines of Physics and to promote research culture in the country.
While inaugurating the three-day workshop, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui said that it was imperative to bridge the knowledge-gap in various academic fields to come at par with the developed nations.
The university, during the last three-years focused on updating its students and faculty about new techniques and methods for conducting research that brings benefits to the society. A special financial incentives package was offered to the faulty to construct and create knowledge through research journals.They have achieved a milestone in the field of research.
Fourteen research journals were published in a short span time.
These numbers will reach to twenty by June next year, he announced. In order to disseminate the research-findings twenty-seven national and international conferences were arranged, besides holding more than 100 seminars and workshops during the last three years.
He briefed the participants about the recent initiatives to bring about qualitative improvement in the overall working of the university. They tried to reach out to marginalised sections of the people, helping them to get educational facilities free of cost.
These include prisoners, disabled, drop-out girls and transgender group. Earlier, chairman department of Physics, Dr Zafar Ilyas highlighted the objectives of the workshop, stating it is unique one in its nature, since it providing necessary know-how to the researchers about XRD, FT.IR and LUMOS FT-IR microscope.
The workshop during its working sessions will cover various aspects including theoretical background of different techniques, operation and data interpretations for the analysis of samples of diverse nature.
