A 3-day annual urs of Punjabi poet and saint Pir Syed Waris Shah began in Jandiala Sher Khan on Thursday

SHEIKHUPURA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Sep, 2021 ) :A 3-day annual urs of Punjabi poet and saint Pir Syed Waris Shah began in Jandiala Sher Khan on Thursday.

Waris Shah,best known for his seminal work Heer Ranjha,was known as the Shakespeare of Punjabi Language.

The celebrations started with the 'ghussal' ceremony of the shrine with rose water and it was performed by Provincial secretary Muhammad Nadeem Qureshi, MPA Talat Fatima, Executive Director Punjab Arts Council Ibrar Alam, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Asghar Joya and DPO Ahsan Siaf ullah along with devotees.

According to spokesperson,the district administration along with police made strict security arrangements.

He said only vaccinated people were allowed to attend the urs celebrations whereas a local holiday was also announced on the second day.A 'Heer reciting' competition would be held on the third and last day in which artistes across the country would participate,he added.
