The commuters of Kahuta-Kashmir road and residents of Sihala and adjoining areas have been irked due to the frequent gridlocks at the Sihala Railway where traffic remains clogged for hours due to trains' movements on daily basis.
The worst sufferers of the traffic mess are patients and office goers. Since the road is actually one lane but made into two tracks to accommodate two-way traffic, it remains clogged most of the time. The road is also in the use of heavy vehicles of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and a large number of oil tankers which get filled at an oil depot located in Sihala.
The traffic congestion becomes nasty during peak hours especially when hundreds of large buses of the PAEC pass through the railway crossing.
Due to absence of any overhead bridge or underpass at the busy railway crossing, I am forced to waste hours at the Pathak due to its frequent closure," says Imran Abbasi while talking to APP who drives a Suzuki carry.
A truck driver Ahsan Irfan said: "He has to travel to Rawalakot, Azad Kashmir for goods transportation and five hours destination becomes 9-10 hours due to blockage at crossing point.
A shopkeeper in Sihala bazaar said, the road, being single, is too busy and narrow, many fatal accidents have occurred involving head-on collisions, taking many precious lives.
Residents and road users have urged the concerned authorities for the construction of overhead bridge at Sihala Railway crossing where traffic remains clogged for hours due to trains' movements.
