ISLAMABAD, Nov 9 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 09th Nov, 2016 ) : The Supreme Court Wednesday converted the death sentence of a murder convict into life imprisonment over lack of evidence. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa heard the case.
During the course of proceedings, the petitioner's counsel Ahmad Raza informed the court that his client Muhammad Umar was convicted for murdering Basit Ali in the year 2005 in Jhelum. The trial court awarded him death sentence which was maintained by the Lahore High Court.
The counsel said his client was awarded death sentence without solid evidence and pleaded the court to acquit him. The court after hearing arguments converted the death sentence into life imprisonment and disposed of the case.
