Golden Eagles Win Shami T20 Veteran Cricket Cup Title

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 07th Nov, 2016 ) : Rizwan Aslam made useful unbeaten 60 runs to set up Golden Eagles 8 wickets thumping victory against Aftab Qarshi in the final of the 3rd Shami T20 Veterans Cricket Cup at Aligarh cricket ground in Model Town on Monday.
Aftab Qarshi reached 143 for 9 in allotted 20 overs after Golden Eagles captain Salman Khan won the toss and put the opposition into bat. Asif Ejaz 26, Faraz Ahmad 21, Masroor Hussain 20 and Mohsin Aftab 15 were their main run getters.
Golden Eagles bowling Muhammad Hafeez took 3/15, followed by Kashif Riaz 2/19, Shahid Anwar 2/27 and Akbar Khan 1/15. Golden Ealges answered with 144/2 in 16.5 overs. Rizwan Aslam was the top scorer with a fine half century as Muhammad Shahbaz added unbeaten 45 with Shahid Anwar making 33.
Shahid Ishaq 1/18 and Moshin Aftab Qarshi 1/24 were the main wicket takers from Aftab Qarshi. Javaid Ashraf and Muhammad Kaleem were the umpires, Nasir Hussain Senior was the tv Umpire and Azhar Hussain acted as scorer.
President, Lahore City Cricket Association, Khawaja Nadeem Ahmad, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said: "Veteran cricket is on the rise in the city as a lot of tournaments are being organised round-the-year." He said veteran cricket is a healthy activity which has engaged the former cricketers in competitive cricket.
He urged the veteran cricket organisers to utilise their resources for promoting cricket at grass-roots level, which was the base of the game. "Alone LCCA cannot achieve the objective of promoting cricket and collective efforts are needed to broaden the base of the game," he added.
The patron-in-chief of the Golden Ealges Club, Mian Tassadaq Rasool, a noted businessman, announced a cash prize of Rs 100,000 for the winning team and special cash prizes including for Man of the Match and other notable performers of the final.
He said he would continue his association with veteran cricket and will encourage those cricketers who perform to a higher level. Salman Khan, the chief organiser of the tournament, said it was the third event which he organised in the memory of his late nephew Shami, who died in a road accident in America.
He said he was organising a number of veteran cricket tournaments for the benefit of veteran cricketers. Salman Khan announced organising a U19 cricket tournament under the banner of LCCA to help promote club cricket.
After the final, LCCA President Khawaja Nadeem Ahmad, cricket promoter and organiser from Canada, Fayyaz Qureshi, Mian Tassadaq Rasool, chief executive officer, Pakistan Veteran Cricket Association, Ashiq Hussain Qureshi gave away the trophies and prizes.
