The Complete Story of Shab e Meraj

Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) was sleeping on the night of 27 Rajab when Hazrat Jibrael appeared. He took Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) to Masjid-e-Aqsa on a white animal known as Buraq. They stopped at various historical places on the way and Hazrat Jibrael asked the Holy Prophet (PBUH) to pray there. Some of the notable sites include the tree where Allah Almighty talked to Hazrat Musa (AS), the grave of Hazrat Musa (AS), the Mount of Sinai, where the Torah was revealed, and Bethlehem, the birthplace of Hazrat Esa (AS).

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) led the prayer in Masjid Al Aqsa; all the Prophets offered prayer behind him. Afterward, Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) began his journey toward heaven. He (SAW) met Hazrat Adam (AS) in the first heaven, Hazrat Esa (AS) and Hazrat Yahya (AS) in the second heaven, Hazrat Yousaf (AS) in the third heaven, Hazrat Idris (AS) in the fourth heaven, Hazrat Haroon (AS) on the fifth heaven, Hazrat Musa (AS) on the sixth heaven, and Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) on the seventh heaven. Everyone greeted Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) with respect and gratitude.

Hazrat Jibrael took Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) to Sidrat Ul Muntaha after crossing seven heavens and stopped there. No one was allowed to cross it except Hazrat Muhammad (SAW). Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) crossed it and met Allah Almighty. Allah Almighty blessed Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) with two gifts, Namaz and the last verse of Surah Al Baqra.

Allah gifted 50 Namaz to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) initially. Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) requested Allah to decrease the number so that all Muslims can easily offer them. That's why the number was reduced to five, but the reward of offering those five prayers; Fajar, Duhar, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha, was not reduced and remained the same as of offering 50 prayers.
