Syria asked Russia to provide preferential tariffs for Syrian goods entering the Russian market during a session of the intergovernmental commission in Damascus on Thursday, a representative of the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Trade told Sputnik.
"On Thursday, Syria demanded additional preferential tariffs due to the nature of the relationship between the countries.
The Russian side welcomed such a proposal, and it will be reviewed," Rania Ahmad said.
According to the representative, Russia understands the importance of preferential tariffs, especially when it comes to importing Syrian goods to Russia.
Russian Federal Customs Service explained to Sputnik that Syria is a developing country, and in case of importing Syrian goods to Russia, the country is receiving preferential tariffs amounting to 75 percent of import duty rates of the common customs tariff of the Eurasian Economic Union.
