LHC vacates stay on court, syndicate proceedings against minister

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jan, 2019 ) :The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday vacated stay on anti-corruption court and Islamia University Bahawalpur's syndicate proceedings against Federal Minister for Petroleum Ghulam Sarwar Khan over educational degrees issue.

Justice Ayesha A Malik passed the orders while hearing a petition filed by the minister challenging an anti-corruption court and Islamia University Bahawalpur's syndicate proceedings against him in connection with his educational degrees.

As proceedings commenced, the court was apprised that Ghulam Sarwar Khan's counsel Barrister Syed Ali Zafar through an application had requested to adjourn the matter.

To which, university and board counsel argued that the petitioner's counsel had not attended many previous proceedings and sought adjournments.

They requested the court to withdraw the stay order earlier granted and decide the matter.

At this, the court agreed with respondents' counsel and vacated stay orders earlier granted in favour of Ghulam Sarwar Khan. The court adjourned the matter till March 11 and sought arguments from the parties.

Ghulam Sarwar Khan had challenged the jurisdiction of the anti-corruption court to hear a case about his alleged fake degree. He claimed that the trial court was holding proceedings against him at the behest of then government (previous government). He prayed to the court to set aside the proceedings before the anti-corruption court and syndicate.
