ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-May 30th, 2025) The Federal government on Friday officially announced a four-day nationwide holiday on the occasion of Eid ul-Adha 2025 in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the public holiday schedule, which would begin on Friday, June 6, and continue until Monday, June 9.
The long weekend will provide an extended opportunity for citizens across the country to celebrate Eid ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, with their families and communities.
During this period, all public and private offices, educational institutions and banks will remain closed. The closure is aimed at facilitating religious observances including congregational Eid prayers, the traditional sacrifice of animals (Qurbani) and family gatherings.
The Eid ul-Adha holidays are considered one of the most important Islamic events across the Muslim world including Pakistan.
The festival is marked by charity, special prayers, and the ritual slaughter of animals, which is then distributed among family, friends, and those in need.
In major cities like Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar, authorities are expected to deploy special sanitation and waste management teams to handle the increased volume of animal waste and ensure hygiene standards are maintained during the holidays.
The law enforcement agencies will also be on high alert to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow around Eid prayer grounds and cattle markets.
With the four-day Eid ul-Adha holidays falling close to the weekend, travel demand is expected to surge as many people plan trips to their hometowns or vacation spots. Transportation services, especially intercity buses and trains are likely to witness a major increase in bookings.
