Justice(r) Iftikhar Ahmad Cheema

Justice (Rtd) Iftikhar Ahmad Cheema (born 1939) is a Pakistani Barrister cum politician. Cheema became a judge in lower judiciary, than elivated to the Punjab High Court and retired in 2001. In 2008, he was elected as a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from NA 101, Gujranwala VII. On the persuasion of the people of the constituency and encouragement from his mentor and Father in Law' Justice (Rtd) Iftikhar Cheema contested the 2008 general elections as the Pakistan Muslim League (N) candidate and defeated a stalwart of the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Mr Hamid Nasir Chattha with a margin of 23000 votes and became a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan. He has been elected as member of the most important Standing Committee "Law Justice and Human Rights" which is considering the most controversial ordinance of the Pakistani History " NRO". The proposed bill which the committee is considering will provide immunity to President Asif Ali Zardari on his corruption cases. Justice Cheema is the elder brother of Zulfiqar A Cheema, one of the dead honest and efficient senior police officers in Pakistan, who for the first time in the history of country, with the help of Interpol got hold of the famous assassin of Punjab, Faiz Rasool alias Nanhu Ghoraya, while serving as Regional Police Officer Gujranwala Division.
