27 Rajab - Shab-e-Miraj

The night of Rajab, the night in which the last Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) visited and had an actual meeting with his God. The night in which Allah sent His last Messenger to the heavens. This night is in one of the favorite months of the month that Hazrat Muhammad liked. On this night, Allah has blessed the Muslims with an excellent reward like Namaz.

On the night of the expedition, while the Messenger was resting on his bed, Hazrat Gabriel came down, and the Messenger received the message of Allah in which there was the order of the Miraj. The night of the Miraj was the night in which Allah had stopped the whole world. It is the night in which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) led all the Messengers and even traveled through the heavens through Burak.

Holy Quran says:

“Undoubtedly, the number of months with Allah is twelve in the Book of Allah since the day He created heavens and the earth. Four of them are sacred. This is the right religion. Therefore, do not wrong yourselves in these months.

Verses Regarding Shab-e-Miraj

In Holy Quran, there is a verse related to Miraj, which is as follows.

سُبْحٰنَ الَّذِیْۤ اَسْرٰى بِعَبْدِهٖ لَیْلًا مِّنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ اِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْاَقْصَا الَّذِیْ بٰرَكْنَا حَوْلَهٗ لِنُرِیَهٗ مِنْ اٰیٰتِنَاؕ-اِنَّهٗ هُوَ السَّمِیْعُ الْبَصِیْرُ

Glory be to the One Who took His servant ˹Muḥammad˺ by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque whose surroundings We have blessed, so that We may show him some of Our signs. Indeed, He alone is the All-Hearing, All-Seeing.

بلند ہے وہ جس نے اپنے بندے [یعنی پیغمبر اکرم (ﷺ)] کو رات کو مسجد الارضم سے لے کر مسجد اقصی تک پہنچایا ، جس کے گردونواح میں ہم نے برکت دی ہے ، تاکہ اسے اپنی نشانیاں دکھائیں، بےشک وہ سننے والا ، دیکھنے والا ہے

Hadith

Narrated Anas bin Malik from Malik bin Sa'sa'a (Allah be pleased with him) that Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) described to them his Night Journey saying, "While I was lying in Al-Hatim or Al-Hijr, suddenly someone came to me and cut my body open from here to here." I asked Al-Jarud, who was by my side, "It means from his throat to his pubic area," or said, "from the top of the chest." The Prophet (peace be upon him) further said, "He then took out my heart. Then a gold tray full of Belief was brought to me, and my heart was washed and was filled (with Belief) and then returned to its original place. Then a white animal smaller than a mule and bigger than a donkey was brought to me." (on this, Al-Jarud asked, "Was it the Buraq, O Abu Hamza?" I (i.e., Anas) replied in the affirmative). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "The animal's step (was so wide that it) reached the farthest point within reach of the animal's sight. I was carried on it, and Gabriel set out with me till we reached the nearest heaven. When he asked for the gate to be opened, it was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel answered, 'Gabriel' It was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad'. It was asked, 'Has Muhammad been called?' Gabriel replied in affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcomed. What an excellent visit his is!' The gate was opened, and when I went over the first heaven, I saw Adam there.

Siddique Akbar and Miraj

As Hazrat Muhammad said to Hazrat Gabriel, "Gabriel, my people, will slander me and will not believe me." Hazrat Gabriel said: "If your people accuse you, then Abu Bakr will confirm that Abu Bakr is righteous."

Importance of 27 Rajab

According to Imam Muhammad Taqi:

"Verily, there is a night in the month of Rajab, which surpasses what the sun shines on; it is the 27th night of Rajab that in its (coming) morning Prophet Muhammad (s) was sent on the prophetic mission. Verily, every Shiite (our follower) who observes the practices of this night will be rewarded what equals the reward of sixty years of worship."

Fasting in Rajab

As Hazrat Muhammad said: "There is a day and night in Rajab who fasts on that day as if he has fasted for a hundred years."

Dua for Rajab

اللهم بارك لنا في رجب وشعبان وبلغنا رمضان

In English Format

Allahumma barik lana fi Rajaba wa Sha’bana wa balligh na Ramadan

Translation in English

“O Allah make the months of Rajab and Sha'ban blessed for us and let us reach the month of Ramadan.”

Translation in Urdu

’’اے اللہ! ہمارے لئے رجب اور شعبان میں برکت عطا فرما اور ہمیں رمضان تک پہنچا دے ‘‘

Ibadat of Miraj

On the twenty-seventh night of Rajab, should offer two Nawafil and then recite of Subhanallah and Alhamdulillah and Allahu Akbar a hundred times. And then Istaghfarullah a hundred times and Durood a hundred times. After all these deeds, pray from Allah, and Allah will give them all things that people want.

First Azan of Islam

The first azan of Islam was given by Hazrat Gabriel on the occasion of Miraj when Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) led all the apostles.

The gifts of Miraj

Allah gave three gifts on Miraj night:

Five-time prayers in a day
The verses of Surah Al baqara
Sins of the ones among the Ummah of Muhammad (saw) shall be forgiven if they do not associate any partners with Allah and will finally be rewarded with Jannah.

Conclusion

Shab-e-Miraj is a very special gift of Allah, which Allah has given to the Muslims through Hazrat Muhammad (SAW). It is the night in which prayers were made obligatory on Muslims. This night teach us the lesson that Allah has power over everything. Do prayers this night as much as you can to seek blessings from Allah Almighty. Also, do remember your family and friends in your prayers.
