River Indus, Kabul flowing in low flood level: FFC

Federal Flood Commission (FFC) Thursday said River Indus in Kalabagh-Chashma Reach and River Kabul at Nowshera are flowing in low flood while all other main rivers including Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Aug, 2018 ) :Federal Flood Commission (FFC) Thursday said River Indus in Kalabagh-Chashma Reach and River Kabul at Nowshera are flowing in low flood while all other main rivers including Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal.

According to FFC daily flood situation report, the actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs elevations are at 1543.23 feet and 1167.25 feet respectively (6.77 feet and 74.75 feet below their respective maximum conservation levels).

The combined live storage is 8.234 MAF which is 60.19 percent compared to the existing combined live storage capacity of 13.681 MAF.

According to FFD, Lahore, at present moist currents from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are penetrating into upper parts of the country upto 3000 feet.

It further added that yesterday's well marked Monsoon Low over Northwestern Bay of Bengal (India) has moved West-Northwestwards and today lies over Southern Chhattisgarh (India) and adjoining areas and has intensified into Depression while the seasonal low lies over Northwestern Balochistan.

The FFD, Lahore has predicted scattered thunderstorm and rain with moderate falls at isolated places over upper catchments of Rivers Jhelum Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej besides over Rawalpindi and Gujranwala Divisions of Punjab and also Malakand, Hazara, Bannu, Kohat and Peshawar Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Southeastern Sindh during the next 24 hours.

Isolated thunderstorm and rain may also occur over the upper catchment of River Indus besides Lahore, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and DG Khan Divisions of Punjab, DI Khan Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northeastern Balochistan during the same period, the report said.

The reported further stated that during the next 48 hours scattered thunderstorm and rain (with isolated moderate falls) is expected over Southeastern Sindh. Scattered thunderstorm and rain with moderate falls may also occur over the upper catchments of Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej including Punjab (Rawalpindi and Gujranwala Divisions), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar Division), besides, isolated thunderstorm and rain over Lahore, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur and DG Khan Divisions of Punjab, Malakand, Hazara, Kohat, Bannu and DI Khan Divisions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northeastern Balochistan during the same period.
