ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Nov, 2018 ) :Silas a film on community rights was screened here Friday as part of 16-day International Film Festival on human rights arranged by United Nations Information Center in Islamabad (UNIC).

Highlighting human rights through cinematography, UNIC arranged film screening in collaboration with European Union in celebration of 70 years of Universal Declaration of Human Rights while 27 thematic documentaries will be screened in Gujrat, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Mardan, Peshawar, Quetta, Rawalpindi and Swat till December 10.

Directed by Hawa Essuman and written by Anjali Nayar, Silas is the story of a Liberian activist Silas Siakor, a tireless crusader against illegal logging and a symbol of resistance for a new generation.

The Liberian environmental activist Silas Siakor puts his heart and soul into fighting for community rights and exposing corruption.

Growing up during the rule of convicted war criminal, Siakor saw valuable raw materials leave his country as weapons entered.

In 2005, this inspired him to support the democratically-elected president who promised change.

When this change fails to come, Siakor and his colleagues at his Sustainable Development Institute use an encrypted mobile phone app to show the international community how human rights in Liberia continue to be widely violated.

Meanwhile, companies that are destroying the environment still have the upper hand.

Siakor's passionate fight also has a flip side, as both his family life and his health are beginning to suffer.

Over the course of five years, Siakor follows a thrilling investigation that inspires a generation of young activists to raise their smart phones and demand change.
