Ireland is the full time member of the International cricket Council and has the status of test match, one day international and T20 international. In 1993, it became the associate member of the ICC and in 2017 it was granted the full membership of ICC. It played only one test match against Pakistan in 2018 at Dubai. It is not a strong team with respect to test matches as it gained the test match status very late.

Coincidently, Ireland’s women team also played the only test match against Pakistan in 2000. It played its first one day international match against England in June 2006 at Stormont and Ireland could not win this match. Ireland has won four times ICC intercontinental cup since 2005 and the most recent in 2013.

This shows that the one day international team of Ireland is better than the test team. Ireland played its first T20 match against Scotland in 2008 at Stormont; moreover its T20 team has good achievements. In 2017, domestic cricket was recognized first time in Ireland as first-class cricket.
