All main rivers flowing normal, no monsoon system at present: FFC

Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has reported no monsoon system at present over Pakistan and all main Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Sep, 2018 ) :Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has reported no monsoon system at present over Pakistan and all main Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal.

According to the daily FFC report on Wednesday, the actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela Dam is at 1543 feet and Mangla reservoir at 63.20 feet below its maximum conservation level (MAL) of 1242 feet which is 1178.20. The present combined live storage of three reservoirs is 8.782 million acre feet (MAF) (64.19 per cent of the total storage capacity of 13.681 MAF).

According to Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore, Weak Seasonal Low still persists over Northern Balochistan and bringing in weak moist currents from Arabian Sea into the upper parts of Pakistan up to 3000 feet. "Yesterday's trough of Westerly Wave over Northern parts of Afghanistan today lies over Northeastern Afghanistan", the report added.

For the next 24 hours, the FFD has predicted isolated thunderstorm or rain over the upper catchments of all main rivers in Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Lahore Divisions) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Hazara and Malakand Divisions).

As predicted by FFD, Lahore, scattered wind thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls and one or two very heavy falls may occur over the upper catchments of all major Rivers including Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and D.G. Khan Divisions) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu and D.I. Khan Divisions) from tomorrow (13th September, 2018) to 16th September 2018.

As a result, flows in Rivers Jhelum and Chenab and their tributaries (Local Nullahs) alongwith Hill Torrents of D.G. Khan Divisions are likely to increase during that period.
