Intl film festival to highlight human rights from Nov 25

Human Rights through Cinematography 2018" a 16-day International film festival is being arranged in different parts of the country by United Nations Information Center, Islamabad (UNIC) to celebrate 70 years of Universal Declaration of Human Rights in collaboration with European Union

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Nov, 2018 ) :"Human Rights through Cinematography 2018" a 16-day International film festival is being arranged in different parts of the country by United Nations Information Center, Islamabad (UNIC) to celebrate 70 years of Universal Declaration of Human Rights in collaboration with European Union.

The 4th edition of the international film festival will take place from 25 November to 10 December featuring 27 thematic documentaries to be screened in Gujrat, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Mardan, Peshawar, Quetta, Rawalpindi and Swat.

These documentaries include "Zahida", "Freedom for the Wolf", "The Poetess", "Silas", "War Against Women", "Land of Mine", "The Song Keepers", "Cosmopolitanism", " The Other Side of Every Thing", "Displaced", "A Theory of Equality", "The Girl Who Saved My Life", "The Divine Order", "Free Men", etc.

Documentaries are focused on the universality of human rights and related human stories across the world. Among the key themes are freedom of expression, minority rights, gender equality, access to justice and death penalty. Screenings will be followed by discussions with film makers, journalists, government and civil society representatives and human rights defenders.

Contributors to the festival are the Delegation of the European Union, diplomatic missions of Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland as well as the Forum for Human Rights, Goethe-Institute, Pakistan National Council of Arts, The Centaurus Cineplex, OLOMOPOLO Media and the Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services.

The 'Human Rights through Cinematography' film festival will offer the participants, including universities and schools' students the opportunity to participate in the discussions related to the core values of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In this respect the organizers appreciate the cooperation with the University of Gujrat, Habib University, University of Swat, Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, University of Baluchistan, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, University of Peshawar, Institute of business Administration Karachi, UMT school of Law and Policy, National College of Arts and University of Punjab in Lahore and Fatima Jinnah Women University in Rawalpindi.

The opening event of the film festival will be hosted on 25 November by the Delegation of the European Union Delegation. This day marks the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Festival will conclude on the Human Rights Day on 10 December and the closing ceremony will be jointly organized by the United Nations and the Embassy of Switzerland.
