Imam Hussain Poetry
The outcome of the Al-Hussain revolution started to appear along with the poetry of grief for the martyrs. It was usually led by those people who could not be able to support that revolution or also by those who participated in the fights actually. The scarcity of such poetry referenced from the first period after the revolution. The reason was the operation by Umayyads, who had started a campaign to keep the revolution effect narrower. It was because they find the danger from the reactions of others when unleashed the revolution.
The eruption of the rebellion in Hijaz’s opponent to the Umayyad regime got an extension to Iraq and somewhere else. Also, they unflared the acts of revenge against Umayyads and their well-wishers. It is all about the end of the Umayyad era and the dawn of the Abbasid state. They let out a complete poetry flood in the sorrow of revolutionaries of Karbala. Till then, it is still the same up to the present time.
Poetry of lamentation is the richest field of Arab poetry. It is observed that a huge amount of poetry is written in lament for Al-Hussain and, most particularly, for the revolution of Karbala. Usually, this poetry is more general and natural than other poetry subjects. It is not based on classical Arabic, but inherited form originates from Iraq and the Gulf about the Al-Hussain revolution.

Value of Imam Hussain Poetry
If we consider Iman Hussain poetry as an artistic work, our judgment might not be true. The experts have observed both artistic and educational value in it. However, the weightage of artistic work is very small because of its vast size. In the first three centuries, poetry consisted of several outstanding pieces. The situation started to change after the third century onward. After that, it became weak, and the expression began to triumph in this sort of poetry.
Keep in mind that we are discussing only the general expression of Imam Hussain poetry after the third century (modern period). No doubt, this poetry has its own qualitative and quantitative value. However, the following are the reasons for the weakness of the quality in the poetry of lament for Al-Hussain.
- During that period, once this poetry came under the effect of general culture. The Arabic language tends to be weak and fallen into decay. The idea was prevailed to preserve the models of ancient poetry without having any artistic or linguistic resource for copying them. The decline is found until the colloquial period.
- The people who started poetry in the lamentation of Al-Hussain were not the poets in actuality. They were only religious scholars, and they only had a little knowledge about the poetic meters. That is why the later poetry of Imam Hussain has an artistic and cultural effect.
- Some people started poetry to praise Al-Husain and the Holy Family in this long period, and their perspectives were not gone beyond this point. Many of them written hundreds of poems for al-Hussain and in praise of faithful commanders. There is no uncertainty that this is profusion that added the poetry towards weakness.
In summary, Imam Hussain Urdu poetry is considered the most authentic and pure form of poetry. It is written only to praise the Holy Family and Al-Hussain to share the heartwrenching incident of Karbala. However, it has become less powerful and ordinary over time due to many reasons and modernization. In conclusion, it still has its place among the people who know the worth of this poetry.
