غنچے نے کی جو اس سے طول کلام کی بات
بلبل یہ سن کے بولی چھوٹا تو منہ بڑی بات
وہ کان خامشی ہوں گوش سماعت آگیں
سنتا ہوں سب کی اپنی کہتا نہیں کوئی بات
بلبل نہ راز دل کہہ دیوار گوش وارد
نکلی جو منہ سے باہر چھپتی نہیں کبھی بات
تعریف اس دہن کی پارینہ کی تو کیا کی
سننے سے تازگی ہو اتنی تو ہو نئی بات
خاموشی بتاں کا باعث یہ برہمن ہے
ڈر ہے کہیں نہ نکلے منہ سے بری بھلی بات
وہ مرد راست گو ہوں مثل قلم جہاں میں
گر دو بھی ہوں زبانیں نکلے نہ دوسری بات
مر بھی گئے برہمن باتوں کی حسرتوں میں
بولے صنم نہ منہ سے کہنے کو رہ گئی بات
اے شادؔ خیریت ہو بلبل کے مشت پر کی
باد صبا بھی آئی سن کر اوڑی پڑی بات

wo kan-e-KHamushi hun gosh-e-samaat-agin
sunta hun sab ki apni kahta nahin koi baat
bulbul na raaz-e-dil kah diwar-e-gosh warid
nikli jo munh se bahar chhupti nahin kabhi baat
tarif us dahan ki parina ki to kya ki
sunne se tazgi ho itni to ho nai baat
KHamoshi-e-butan ka bais ye barhaman hai
Dar hai kahin na nikle munh se buri-bhali baat
wo mard-e-rast-go hun misl-e-qalam jahan mein
gar do bhi hon zabanen nikle na dusri baat
mar bhi gae barahman baaton ki hasraton mein
bole sanam na munh se kahne ko rah gai baat
ai 'shad' KHairiyat ho bulbul ke musht-e-par ki
baad-e-saba bhi aai sun kar uDi-paDi baat
