ہم قفس میں رہ کے جس کو آشیاں کہتے رہے

سلطانہ مہر

ہم قفس میں رہ کے جس کو آشیاں کہتے رہے

تھی فقط حد نظر ہم آسماں کہتے رہے

اک سراب مستقل کو گلستاں کہتے رہے

اس بت نا مہرباں کو مہرباں کہتے رہے

آندھیوں نے آشیانے تو مٹا ڈالا مگر

چند تنکے آشیاں کی داستاں کہتے رہے

جب زباں نے ساتھ چھوڑا بن گئیں یہ ترجماں

ہم جن آنکھوں کو ہمیشہ بے زباں کہتے رہے

کارواں نظروں سے اوجھل تھا اور اوجھل ہی رہا

ہم غبار کارواں کو کارواں کہتے رہے

دل کے اک چھوٹے سے گوشے میں وہ جا کر گم ہوا

جس کو نادانی میں ہم سارا جہاں کہتے رہے

اس عقیدت کا برا ہو ہم بیاباں کو بھی مہرؔ

خون دل سے سینچتے اور گلستاں کہتے رہے

hum qafas mein rah ke jis ko aashiyan kahte rahe
thi faqat hadd-e-nazar hum aasman kahte rahe

ek sarab-e-mustaqil ko gulsitan kahte rahe
us but-e-na-mehrban ko mehrban kahte rahe

aandhiyon ne aashiyane to miTa Dala magar
chand tinke aashiyan ki dastan kahte rahe

jab zaban ne sath chhoDa ban gain ye tarjuman
hum jin aankhon ko hamesha be-zaban kahte rahe

karwan nazron se ojhal tha aur ojhal hi raha
hum ghubar-e-karwan ko karwan kahte rahe

dil ke ek chhoTe se goshe mein wo ja kar gum hua
jis ko nadani mein hum sara jahan kahte rahe

is aqidat ka bura ho hum bayaban ko bhi 'mehr'
KHun-e-dil se sinchte aur gulsitan kahte rahe
