ذلیل مصلحتوں کا اسیر نکلے گا

خبر نہیں تھی کہ تو بے ضمیر نکلے گا

ہمارے شہر کے لوگوں کو یہ امید نہ تھی

امیر شہر بھی دل کا فقیر نکلے گا

اگر نقاب ہٹی راہزن کے چہرے سے

تو کیا خبر تھی ہمارا امیر نکلے گا

میں جانتا تھا ترے لب سے بد گمانی میں

جو لفظ نکلے گا بن کر وہ تیر نکلے گا

سنا ہے کوچۂ شیشہ گراں سے آج انورؔ

وہ سنگ زادوں کا جم غفیر نکلے گا

KHabar nahin thi ki tu be-zamir niklega

hamare shahr ke logon ko ye ummid na thi
amir-e-shahr bhi dil ka faqir niklega

agar naqab haTi rahzan ke chehre se
to kya KHabar thi hamara amir niklega

main jaanta tha tere lab se bad-gumani mein
jo lafz niklega ban kar wo tir niklega

suna hai kucha-e-shisha-garan se aaj 'anwar'
wo sang-zadon ka jamm-e-ghafir niklega
