ساقی سے نہیں بڑھ کے کوئی نبض شناس اور

برسات میں دے دیتا ہے دو چار گلاس اور

دل میں ہو اگر سوز تمنا کی حرارت

ارمان کی تائید میں بڑھ جاتی ہے آس اور

جب اونگھنے لگتی ہے ارادوں کی جوانی

ہستی کے سمن زار بھی ہوتے ہیں اداس اور

ہے روپ کہ بہروپ ہے انسان کا یہ بھی

ہندو کا لباس اور ہے مسلم کا لباس اور

نیرنگیٔ ہستی ہے کہ یہ گلشن ہستی

ہر پھول کا رنگ اور ہے ہر پھول کی باس اور

کیا مانگیے ایام سے امید ہی کیا ہے

گردش کے سوا کچھ نہیں ایام کے پاس اور

انکار ہی بہتر ہے شہیدؔ ایسے کرم سے

دو گھونٹ سے کیا ہوتا ہے بڑھ جاتی ہے پیاس اور

saqi se nahin baDh ke koi nabz shanas aur
barsat mein de deta hai do-chaar gilas aur

dil mein ho agar soz-e-tamanna ki hararat
arman ki taid mein baDh jati hai aas aur

jab unghne lagti hai iradon ki jawani
hasti ke saman-zar bhi hote hain udas aur

hai rup ki bahrup hai insan ka ye bhi
hindu ka libas aur hai muslim ka libas aur

nairangi-e-hasti hai ki ye gulshan-e-hasti
har phul ka rang aur hai har phul ki bas aur

kya mangiye ayyam se ummid hi kya hai
gardish ke siwa kuchh nahin ayyam ke pas aur

inkar hi behtar hai 'shahid' aise karam se
do ghunT se kya hota hai baDh jati hai pyas aur
