عشق ہے بندۂ آزاد کا مقصود حیات
عقل بت گر نے تراشے ہیں ہزاروں معبود
وسعتیں اور عطا عرصۂ آفاق کو کر
تنگ ہے میرے جنوں پہ یہ جہان محدود
فوقیت دیتے ہیں مذہب پہ جو قومیت کو
ان کا ادراک معطل ہے بصیرت محدود
اب کہاں حسن خود آرا میں خم زلف ایاز
اب کہاں عشق کے مسلک میں طریق محمود
نہ وہ منزل گہہ مجنوں ہے نہ وہ وادیٔ نجد
رہ رو شوق و تمنا کی ہیں راہیں مسدود
ذہن میں ان کے کہاں شعلۂ تخلیق سخن
جو یہ کہتے ہیں کہ افکار پہ طاری ہے جمود
شمع ایوان طرب قسمت منعم فاروقؔ
دل مجبور کی تقدیر فقط شعلۂ دود
