Born on May 05, 1947, Ghulam Abbas Mohsin Naqvi was a famous Pakistani poet known for writing ghazals. He penned poetry about love. He also wrote about how rulers disregard the government. Mohsin Naqvi was born in the village Sadat in Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab, Pakistan.

Mohsin Naqvi Personal life:

Mohsin Naqvi's father was a saddlemaker and later a food vendor. Syed Chirag Hussain Shah was his father. He was named Ghulam Abbas by his parents but changed his name to Ghulam Abbas Mohsin Naqvi later on. There are six siblings in Naqvi's family.

Nowadays, Mohsin Naqvi's son Syed Aqeel Mohsin Naqvi is the famous Zakir and scholar of the Shia community.

Mohsin Naqvi Education:

Mohsin Naqvi completed his initial education in his city of Dera Ghazi Khan and then later shifted to the city of Multan, from where he got his graduation degree from the Government College Bosan Road Multan. Further, he then moved to Lahore city, and he remained there till his death. During his stay in Lahore, he got admission to the University of Punjab, and from there, he completed his Master's degree in the Urdu Language.

Mohsin Naqvi Career:

Mohsin Naqvi's poetry mainly dealt with the Karbala Incident, which made him famous all over the world. Poetry was his main form of expression, and he did not fear discussing the ruler's poor performance. He addressed politics, religion, and even war in his verses.

As a member of the Shia Muslim community, it is believed that this is the main reason for his assassination. Further, as a public figure, he earned the title 'Iqbal e Shani' during his tenure and released many poetry books. It is because his poetry demonstrated diversity rather than focusing on love affairs that contributed to his popularity.

Among his other works is a song he wrote for the Pakistani film 'Lehron Ki Tarhan Tujh Ko Bikharnai Nahi Dai Gai,' which won an award. Additionally to his role as an accomplished poet, he played a role in electoral politics as a candidate for the Pakistan Peoples Party. But later, he decided to stick to his original work of poetry, and he said goodbye to politics.

Mohsin Naqvi Awards:

During his lifetime Mohsin Naqvi was the most renowned poet and Ghazal writer. And with this, he was an ardent supporter of his community. He wrote a song for the movie named Bazaar-e-Husn and the song's name was "lahron ki Tarah tujhko bikharne nahi denge," which won him the award for best film that year. It was this award that brought him national recognition.

This film and the song written by Mohsin Naqvi was awarded the Best Film Award, and further, this song went on to earn him the National Film Award in the year 1988.

Mohsin Naqvi death:

His poetry expresses Naqvi's religious and political viewpoints as a prominent member of the Shia Muslim minority. Pakistan experienced a sharp rise in sectarian violence throughout the 1980s and 1990s due to his open criticism. A similar act of violence was also committed against Naqvi.

His assassination is thought to be caused by his involvement with the Shia Muslim community. His death indeed saddened the poetry community.

At Lahore's main bazaar, he was brutally gunned down on January 15, 1996. There are rumors of Riaz Basra's involvement in his murder. After his murder, a thorough murder investigation took place at Allama Iqbal Town police station, Lahore.

At Nasir Bagh, Lahore, he was buried by Allama Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi, Chief of the Tehreek Nafaz Fiqh-e-Jafariya. Thousands of people watched him be laid to rest in his birthplace, Block 45 Dera Ghazi Khan, where he lived as a child. Karbala Sharif Dera Ghazi Khan is where lies the grave of the greatest poet in Urdu Ghazal history Mohsin Naqvi.

Following his shooting, Shaheed Mohsin Naqvi's last words were:
