ایسے زندہ تھے کہ جینے کی علامت ہم تھے

سب خرد مند بنے پھرتے تھے ماشاء اللہ

بس ترے شہر میں اک صاحب وحشت ہم تھے

نام بخشا ہے تجھے کس کے وفور غم نے

گر کوئی تھا تو ترے مجرم شہرت ہم تھے

اب تو خود اپنی ضرورت بھی نہیں ہے ہم کو

وہ بھی دن تھے کہ کبھی تیری ضرورت ہم تھے

دھوپ کے دشت میں کتنا وہ ہمیں ڈھونڈتا تھا

اعتبارؔ اس کے لیے ابر کی صورت ہم تھے
