سر لب کچھ اور تھے مسئلے پس جاں کچھ اور سوال تھے

جو لہولہان کیے گئے سر رہ جو مار دیئے گئے

وہ شغال تو نہ تھے دشت کے مرے شہر ہی کے غزال تھے

اٹھا پردہ روئے گماں سے جب تو کھلا عجب ہی طلسم شب

وہ تمام چہرے بھی خواب تھے وہ سب آئنے بھی خیال تھے

بڑھے جتنے راہ میں پیچ و خم ہوا اور جذب سفر بہم

جو ملال تھے مرے ہم قدم کہیں تھمنے والے ملال تھے

بڑی صبر کش تھیں مسافتیں کہ قدم قدم تھیں قیامتیں

مری ہمتیں تو نہال تھیں مرے حوصلے تو بحال تھے
