عشق آباد فقیروں کی ادا رکھتے ہیں

اور کیا اس کے سوا اہل انا رکھتے ہیں

ہم تہی دست کچھ ایسے بھی تہی دست نہیں

کچھ نہیں رکھتے مگر پاس وفا رکھتے ہیں

زندگی بھر کی کمائی یہ تعلق ہی تو ہے

کچھ بچے یا نہ بچے اس کو بچا رکھتے ہیں

شعر میں پھوٹتے ہیں اپنی زباں کے چھالے

نطق رکھتے ہیں مگر سب سے جدا رکھتے ہیں

ہم نہیں صاحب تکریم تو حیرت کیسی

سر پہ دستار نہ پیکر پہ عبا رکھتے ہیں

شہر آواز کی جھلمل سے دمک اٹھیں گے

شب خاموش کی رخ شمع نوا رکھتے ہیں

اک تری یاد گلے ایسے پڑی ہے کہ نجیبؔ

آج کا کام بھی ہم کل پہ اٹھا رکھتے ہیں
