اک فقط ساحل تلک آتا ہوں میں
پرتپال سنگھ بیتاب
اک فقط ساحل تلک آتا ہوں میں
رو میں جانے کیسے بہہ جاتا ہوں میں
منزلوں کی جستجو میں بارہا
منزلوں سے آگے بڑھ جاتا ہوں میں
بھاگتا ہوں رات جس جنگل سے دور
صبح اسی کو سامنے پاتا ہوں میں
کس افق میں دفن ہو جاتا ہے دن
ہر شب اس الجھن کو سلجھاتا ہوں میں
مر گیا جو شخص مجھ میں اس کا روز
پتھروں پر نام کھدواتا ہوں میں
قفل ابجد ہوں بس اک ترتیب سے
کھولنے والا ہو کھل جاتا ہوں میں
بار بار اس شہر کو بیتابؔ کیوں
با دل نا خواستہ جاتا ہوں میں

har shab is uljhan ko suljhata hun main
mar gaya jo shaKHs mujh mein us ka roz
pattharon par nam khudwata hun main
qufl-e-abjad hun bas ek tartib se
kholne wala ho khul jata hun main
bar bar is shahr ko 'betab' kyun
ba-dil-e-na-KHwasta jata hun main
