سارے عالم کے درد مند رہے
ہم بھی کیا انتہا پسند رہے
سرکشی تھی ہماری فطرت میں
پست جتنے ہوئے بلند رہے
ہوشمندی تو اک ضرورت تھی
فطرتاً ہم جنوں پسند رہے
آبرو فن کی انکسار سے تھی
سر جھکایا تو سر بلند رہے
ہم زمانے کے درد اپنا کر
اپنے گھر ہی میں نا پسند رہے
بعد تیرے نہ جی لگا لیکن
کون سے کام تھے کہ بند رہے

sar-kashi thi hamari fitrat mein
past jitne hue buland rahe
hosh-mandi to ek zarurat thi
fitratan hum junun-pasand rahe
aabru fan ki inkisar se thi
sar jhukaya to sar-buland rahe
hum zamane ke dard apna kar
apne ghar hi mein na-pasand rahe
ba'd tere na ji laga lekin
kaun se kaam the ki band rahe
