آلام و رنج و غم کی تبھی لب کشائی تھی
جب ساحلوں پہ اشکوں نے بستی بسائی تھی
دریا چمک رہا تھا ستاروں کے زور پر
اک رات کہکشاں نے کہانی سنائی تھی
دل میں یقین ہے کہ یہ بے داغ کائنات
اس اتفاق نے نہیں رب نے بنائی تھی
کس نے اداسیوں سے یہ شامیں نکالی ہیں
کس نے خموشیوں سے یہ وادی سجائی تھی
طنازیٔ جمال تھا وہ طمطراق حسن
چہرے پہ خاک عشق کی جلوہ نمائی تھی
مجھ کو گماں ہوا تھا دھواں دیکھ کر وہاں
اس طاقچے میں صرف دئے کی دہائی تھی
میں اس کے سامنے سے گزر کے گیا تو جونؔ
نظریں نہیں ملیں تھیں فقط ہم نوائی تھی

jab sahilon pe ashkon ne basti basai thi
dariya chamak raha tha sitaron ke zor par
ek raat kahkashan ne kahani sunai thi
dil mein yaqin hai ki ye be dagh kaenat
is ittifaq ne nahin rab ne banai thi
kis ne udasiyon se ye shamen nikali hain
kis ne KHamoshiyon se ye wadi sajai thi
tannazi-e-jamal tha wo tumtaraq-e-husn
chehre pe KHak ishq ki jalwa-numai thi
mujh ko guman hua tha dhuan dekh kar wahan
us taqche mein sirf diye ki dahai thi
main us ke samne se guzar ke gaya to 'john'
nazren nahin milin thin faqat ham-nawai thi
