وہی پیاس ہے وہی دشت ہے وہی گھرانا ہے

وہی پیاس ہے وہی دشت ہے وہی گھرانا ہے

مشکیزے سے تیر کا رشتہ بہت پرانا ہے

صبح سویرے رن پڑنا ہے اور گھمسان کا رن

راتوں رات چلا جائے جس جس کو جانا ہے

ایک چراغ اور ایک کتاب اور ایک امید اثاثہ

اس کے بعد تو جو کچھ ہے وہ سب افسانہ ہے

دریا پر قبضہ تھا جس کا اس کی پیاس عذاب

جس کی ڈھالیں چمک رہی تھیں وہی نشانہ ہے

کاسۂ شام میں سورج کا سر اور آواز اذاں

اور آواز اذاں کہتی ہے فرض نبھانا ہے

سب کہتے ہیں اور کوئی دن یہ ہنگامۂ دہر

دل کہتا ہے ایک مسافر اور بھی آنا ہے

ایک جزیرہ اس کے آگے پیچھے سات سمندر

سات سمندر پار سنا ہے ایک خزانہ ہے
