مگر ہم اہل محبت وفا پسند رہے
قدم قدم پہ سجائے گئے تھے دار و رسن
خدا کا شکر کہ ہم پھر بھی سر بلند رہے
وہ اک ہمیں تھے جو شرمندۂ کرم نہ ہوئے
وہ ننگ عشق تھے جو التجا پسند رہے
ترے ستم نے مرے دل کو حوصلہ بخشا
خدا کرے کہ ترا حوصلہ بلند رہے
زباں سے طاقت گفتار چھیننے والو
تمہیں بتاؤ کہ کب تک زبان بند رہے
جو آشنائے فضائے فلک تھے اے ماہرؔ
وہ خضر بھی تو مری گرد پا میں بند رہے

tere sitam ne mere dil ko hausla baKHsha
KHuda kare ki tera hausla buland rahe
zaban se taqat-e-guftar chhinne walo
tumhin batao ki kab tak zaban band rahe
jo aashna-e-faza-e-falak the ai 'mahir'
wo KHizr bhi to meri gard-e-pa mein band rahe
