پرندے ہوتے اگر ہم ہمارے پر ہوتے

ذرا سی دیر میں اک دوسرے کے گھر ہوتے

بلا سے ہجر کی راتیں طویل تر ہوتیں

مگر نہ وصل کے دن اتنے مختصر ہوتے

ہم اپنے مرکز و محور سے کٹ گئے ورنہ

اس ایک در کے جو ہوتے نہ در بدر ہوتے

تمہاری چاہ میں اتنا تو ہم سے ہو سکتا

تمہاری راہ میں پھولوں بھرا شجر ہوتے

امیر دشت کا سنسان راستہ ہوتا

اور ایک شام کو ہم دونوں ہم سفر ہوتے

zara si der mein ek dusre ke ghar hote

bala se hijr ki raaten tawil-tar hotin
magar na wasl ke din itne muKHtasar hote

hum apne markaz-o-mehwar se kaT gae warna
us ek dar ke jo hote na dar-ba-dar hote

tumhaari chah mein itna to hum se ho sakta
tumhaari rah mein phulon bhara shajar hote

amir-e-dasht ka sunsan rasta hota
aur ek sham ko hum donon ham-safar hote
