کعبۂ رخسار کی تیرے زیارت چاہئے
مجھ کو تیرا حوصلہ تیری اجازت چاہئے
میں ہمیشہ یہ دعا کرتا ہوں اے پروردگار
میرے بیٹوں کو بھی مجھ جیسی سخاوت چاہئے
سرد موسم کا سہا جاتا نہیں مجھ سے عذاب
برف جیسی رات کو تیری حرارت چاہئے
زندگی کا لطف حاصل اس طرح ہوتا نہیں
دل میں تیرے جذبۂ صبر و قناعت چاہئے
پورا یوں ہی شہر قبرستان جیسا ہو گیا
ظالموں کو اور کتنی اب ہلاکت چاہئے
کوثر و تسنیم تو ہیں اہل جنت کے لئے
اے مرے ساقی مجھے جام شہادت چاہئے
جس کی ہر آواز پر ہر شخص ہم آواز ہو
آج اپنی قوم کو ایسی قیادت چاہئے
میں بھی بسنا چاہتا ہوں آپ ہی کے شہر میں
مجھ کو اس میں گھر بنانے کی اجازت چاہئے
بات سچ کہنا کوئی آساں نہیں اس دور میں
لب ہلانے کی سر محفل جسارت چاہئے
شادؔ کیوں اس کا نمائندہ میں تجھ کو مان لوں
اس کا لکھا کوئی خط اس کی عبارت چاہئے

mujh ko tera hausla teri ijazat chahiye
main hamesha ye dua karta hun ai parwardigar
mere beTon ko bhi mujh jaisi saKHawat chahiye
sard mausam ka saha jata nahin mujh se azab
barf jaisi raat ko teri hararat chahiye
zindagi ka lutf hasil is tarah hota nahin
dil mein tere jazba-e-sabr-o-qanaat chahiye
pura yun hi shahr qabristan jaisa ho gaya
zalimon ko aur kitni ab halakat chahiye
kausar-o-tasnim to hain ahl-e-jannat ke liye
ai mere saqi mujhe jam-e-shahadat chahiye
jis ki har aawaz par har shaKHs ham-awaz ho
aaj apni qaum ko aisi qayaadat chahiye
main bhi basna chahta hun aap hi ke shahr mein
mujh ko is mein ghar banane ki ijazat chahiye
baat sach kahna koi aasan nahin is daur mein
lab hilane ki sar-e-mahfil jasarat chahiye
'shad' kyon us ka numainda main tujh ko man lun
us ka likkha koi KHat us ki ibarat chahiye
