ہر چند ہم مثال صبا بے نشاں رہے
ہم فلسفوں کی گود کے پروردہ آدمی
اس مصلحت کدے میں بہت سرگراں رہے
ٹوٹے قدم قدم پہ خیالات کے صنم
حائل کچھ ایسے راہ میں سنگ گراں رہے
چھپ چھپ کے چشم دہر سے رونا پڑا ہمیں
دنیا پہ ہم عیاں تھے زیادہ نہاں رہے
کانٹا سا تھا جو دل میں جمالیؔ امید کا
جب وہ نکل گیا تو بہت شادماں رہے

har chand hum misal-e-saba be-nishan rahe
hum falsafon ki god ke parwarda aadmi
is maslahat-kade mein bahut sargiran rahe
TuTe qadam qadam pe KHayalat ke sanam
hail kuchh aise rah mein sang-e-giran rahe
chhup-chhup ke chashm-e-dahr se rona paDa hamein
duniya pe hum 'ayan the ziyaada nihan rahe
kanTa sa tha jo dil mein 'jamali' umid ka
jab wo nikal gaya to bahut shadman rahe
