دار و رسن نے کس کو چنا دیکھتے چلیں
یہ کون سر بلند ہوا دیکھتے چلیں
آئے گا پھر چمن پہ تصرف کا وقت بھی
پہلے قفس کی آب و ہوا دیکھتے چلیں
جاتے تھے ہم تو پھیر کے منہ جلوہ گاہ سے
لیکن دل و نظر نے کہا دیکھتے چلیں
ہاں اک نظر حفیظؔ پہ عبرت کے واسطے
کیا رہ گئی ہے قدر وفا دیکھتے چلیں

pahle qafas ki aab-o-hawa dekhte chalen
jate the hum to pher ke munh jalwa-gah se
lekin dil o nazar ne kaha dekhte chalen
han ek nazar 'hafiz' pe ibrat ke waste
kya rah gai hai qadr-e-wafa dekhte chalen
