تمہاری یاد جو آئی تو دے کے آہ گئی

بنا کے درد کو اپنا یہاں گواہ گئی

پلٹ کے آؤ گے تم اس لئے بہ حسرت و یاس

تمہارے پیچھے بڑی دور تک نگاہ گئی

ملا کے چھوڑ دیا آخرش محبت نے

تمہارے گھر ہی گئی جو ہماری راہ گئی

وہ آرزو جو دبے پاؤں آئی تھی دل میں

بنا کے مجھ کو مرے دل کا بادشاہ گئی

نہ چھوڑا ہم کو کہیں کا تمہاری الفت نے

جدائی دے کے قیامت کا انتباہ گئی

یہ سچ ہے ہم نے بھی اکثر نباہی ہے اس سے

ہمارے ساتھ بھی یہ زندگی نباہ گئی

وہ ایک لڑکی سمجھتے تھے نا سمجھ جس کو

ہمارے شعر پہ وہ کر کے واہ واہ گئی

ملی تھی راہ میں رسوائی جو ہمیں جامیؔ

جدا ہوئی تو خوشی دے کے بے پناہ گئی

tumhaari yaad jo aai to de ke aah gai
bana ke dard ko apna yahan gawah gai

palaT ke aaoge tum is liye ba-hasrat-o-yas
tumhaare pichhe baDi dur tak nigah gai

mila ke chhoD diya aaKHirash mohabbat ne
tumhaare ghar hi gai jo hamari rah gai

wo aarzu jo dabe panw aai thi dil mein
bana ke mujh ko mere dil ka baadshah gai

na chhoDa hum ko kahin ka tumhaari ulfat ne
judai de ke qayamat ka intibah gai

ye sach hai hum ne bhi aksar nibahi hai us se
hamare sath bhi ye zindagi nibah gai

wo ek laDki samajhte the na-samajh jis ko
hamare sher pe wo kar ke wah wah gai

mili thi rah mein ruswai jo hamein 'jami'
juda hui to KHushi de ke be-panah gai
